Support the work of the parish and submit your intentions to be prayed for before the Miraculous Statue.
St. Mary's Forane Church has been maintained by the generosity of its faithful for over four centuries. The tradition of giving — epitomised by the Pidiyari fistful-of-rice movement — is woven into the very DNA of this parish.
Your donation supports the upkeep of the church building, the care of the Miraculous Statue, the Good Friday gruel distribution, the sacramental ministry of the parish, and the outreach work that serves the most vulnerable in the Cherthala community. No gift is too small; all are received with gratitude and prayer.
For donations from outside India, please contact the parish office via email for international transfer details.
After making a transfer, please contact the parish office at 8281732739 or thankeychurch2018@gmail.com with your name, amount, and intention so that it can be properly recorded.
The original Pidiyari — a fistful of rice set aside from each meal — built this parish's most cherished tradition. Today, any contribution to the Pidiyari fund feeds pilgrims on Good Friday and continues a movement of collective generosity that is over eighty years old. Even a small offering joins this great river of faith.
"We had prayed before the statue for three years for my son's recovery. When he was healed, we came back to Thankey on Good Friday to give thanks — on our knees, from the gate. It was the only way we knew to express what we felt."
— A family from Ernakulam"My grandmother began the Pidiyari tradition in our household before I was born. Now I do it for my children. One fistful of rice — it seems like nothing. But together, all of us, it feeds thousands of pilgrims every Good Friday. This is what the Church means."
— A parishioner of 40 years"I am not Catholic. I came with my neighbour once, out of curiosity. I received the kanji, I stood before the statue, and I felt something I cannot explain. I have come back every Good Friday for twelve years."
— A pilgrim from Alappuzha"The Mass Intention we offered at Thankey for my father's passing — there was something about having it prayed here, before this statue, that brought our family a peace we had not been able to find. We are grateful beyond words."
— A devotee from Cherthala
